How Dental Implants Work
An implant is a small titanium post that takes the place of a missing tooth root. After it is set in the jaw, the bone grows against the metal in a process called osseointegration, and that bond is what lets the post carry a crown, bridge, or denture. A published review reports implant survival of about 95.7% at five years and 92.8% at ten, with osseointegration identified as the key to long-term success.
Because the post sits in the bone, an implant does not lean on the teeth beside it the way a bridge does, and it does not rest on the gums like a denture. Daily eating, talking, and brushing feel much closer to natural teeth.

If bone is thin or a damaged tooth is still in place, you may first need tooth extraction and bone grafting. Grafting adds volume where bone has been lost so the implant has solid support, and we outline each step before it happens.
What to Expect From Start to Finish
